The soft architecture of a room

Custom Drapery

From heading and fullness to lining, hardware, and the way a panel meets the floor, custom drapery is an exercise in proportion.

Sunlit folds of natural linen drapery

Well-resolved drapery does more than cover glass. It can quiet a large room, soften hard architecture, correct visual proportions, and create a finished line from ceiling to floor.

Before you choose

Planning custom drapery in Nashville

Start with how the panels need to work: frame the view, close for evening privacy, or help darken a bedroom. For homes in Nashville, Franklin, and Brentwood, a consultation with 7.0 Blinds & Shutters can bring fabric, lining, hardware, and measurements into one plan.

Discuss your windows with 7.0

Proportion

Rod height, return, stack, and finished length should respond to the full wall—not only the window opening.

Material

Fiber, weight, weave, and color determine how the treatment filters light and how its folds hold.

Construction

Heading style, fullness, lining, interlining, and weighted hems shape the final silhouette.

Hardware

Finish, diameter, brackets, and traversing method should feel intentional within the room.

Notice how the drapery frames the full wall while separate shades cover the lower windows. This is a useful composition to discuss when softness and privacy have different jobs.

Questions, considered.

What affects the cost of custom drapery?

Compare the complete installed treatment. Window width and height, fabric yardage, fullness, pattern matching, lining, heading construction, rods or tracks, and installation access all affect the scope. Ask for fabric, fabrication, hardware, and installation to be itemized so two proposals can be compared fairly.

Will decorative side panels provide privacy?

Only panels designed to traverse and cover the opening can close across the glass. If you prefer stationary side panels, plan a separate privacy shade. For a bedroom, ask to see the proposed lining and discuss light at the edges, above the rod, and where the panels meet.

How do measuring and installation work?

Bring room photographs and approximate dimensions to the first conversation; leave final fabrication measurements to the provider. Before ordering, confirm rod placement, clearance for shades and handles, panel stack space, finished length, and who supplies and installs the hardware.

How long does custom drapery take?

The schedule depends on fabric availability, workroom capacity, hardware, and installation scheduling. Ask 7.0 for the current lead time after the material and construction are selected, and identify any move-in or furnishing deadline before approving the order.

Should drapery be mounted above the window?

Often, yes. Raising the visual line can make a room feel taller and allow the panels to frame more of the glass. Exact placement depends on architecture, molding, and available stack space.

Is lining always necessary?

Not always. Lining affects opacity, insulation, body, and how the face fabric is protected. Sheers and some relaxed treatments may be intentionally unlined.

Can custom drapery be motorized?

Many traversing drapery systems can be motorized. The right approach depends on panel weight, opening width, wiring or battery strategy, and the desired controls.
